Canon patents pending to control the blur in the apodization filter with variable

patent has been introduced in the accomplishment of the two lens

engineers to achieve a beautiful bokeh shape using the variable element of the Canon (180mm F3.5 and 135mm F2.8).

patent 135mm F2.8 Apodization

· Canon

patents pending 180mm F3.5 and 135mm F2.8 Canon is

  • . To achieve (apodization filter) apodization filter of variable formula, it seems able to control the beautiful bokeh by electric drive system.
  • variable element shape: Canon
  • patent. Voltage is applied, changing the shape of the interface. Obtain the apodization effect. Varying refractive power, the Abbe number.
  • apodization has been used to 135mm F2.8 (T4.5) STF (Sony) Minolta. But also well-known technology is also a variable element of apodization, Canon has done to reduce the aberration variation, seems to have aimed at high performance.
It might appear that emphasizes bokeh lens such as the STF from Canon

. Lens of the patent, because such a filter can be adjusted by the effect of electric drive, if commercialized if, for those who want extremely bokeh of the lens is going to be a very interesting item.

    This is absolute great news!
I have made a DIY apodization filter, because I love the bokeh of the Sony STF 135mm lens.
With these filters I use some lenses, mainly an old cheap Helios 44 – and get images roughly like the Sony STF.
Now with these patents from Canon I hope that Canon will start production of such lenses, lets hope :-)
