BELGRADE, July 26 (Xinhua) — Serbian Prime Minister-designate Ivica Dacic told the parliament on Thursday that economic recovery is a national priority and all other government goals hinge on it.

In his speech to the parliament before a voting on his new government, he said the main goal of the government he would lead was to reinforce Serbia’s foundations, get the country moving and raise employment, achieve an economic recovery and accelerate European Union integration, adding that the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina would continue.

Dacic said he did not wish to dwell on differences, but to rally the most intelligent people and ideas to serve Serbia’s interests.

“This government will be for the future, and not focused on the past,” he added, calling on the parliament to vote for the new government while reiterating that “Serbia comes first to all of us. “

According to Dacic, the government would conduct a general social reform and labor to achieve a broad political consensus.

Economic recovery is a national priority, and all other government goals hinge on it – Serbia’s European future, the Kosovo issue, regional cooperation, the battle against crime and corruption, education and healthcare, he emphasized.

The new government’s economic policy will not call for austerity and for the people to tighten their belts, but to ” ensure the least painful way to lead the people out of the economic crisis.

On the economic policy, Dacic said, the new government would resume the talks with the International Monetary Fund, World Bank and other financial institutions, that it would not institute a freeze on salaries and pensions and that there would be no privatization of the government companies like the Belgrade airport.

“Serbia will not recognize Kosovo’s independence. The Serbian government wants normal life for all the people in Kosovo. Everything agreed at the technical talks with Pristina needs to be implemented and the dialogue continued on the political level, involving top government officials,” Dacic stated.

Serbia will cooperate with all the countries of the world, advocate security, stability and good relations in the western Balkans and hold out its hand in reconciliation, Dacic noted.

The government will call for an efficient, systemic and uncompromising battle against crime and corruption, and it will investigate all suspicious privatizations, he said.
