China’s deep-sea manned submersible, the Jiaolong has begun its 6th and last dive.

This time, the planned depth is between 6900 meters and 7100 meters. And its main task is to inspect and check the submersible on the basis of the results obtained from the first 5 test dives. This dive will also be testing the security of the submersible. After the last dive, the Jiaolong will be put into use.

The submersible already set a new national dive record after reaching 7062 meters below sea level during its fifth dive into the Mariana Trench in the Pacific Ocean. Various new marine lives were found at these depths. The Jiaolong got three water samples, two sediment samples and one organism sample, placed a marker, and made several experiments on the sea floor.
